DLD08 - meeting internet V.I.P.s in Munich

von Jason 20 01 2008

During the next 3 days Munich is hosting a bunch of Internet V.I.P.s or shall I better say: “very influential people” that will definitely shape the internet today and in future. At www.woobby.com you can find a top list of the “Most influential people at DLD08″ - at least a try - feel free to make your own ranking. For a few hours the heart and brain of the internet seems not to beat and think in Palo Alto, Mountain View or any other prominent spot in the Silicon Valley, but in Munich, the very traditional capital of Bavaria - the conservative southern part of Germany.

Among the Internet V.I.P.s at DLD08 are Marissa Mayer, Google, Matt Cohler, Facebook, Niklas Zennström, Kaaza/Skype/Joost etc, Jimmy Wikipedia Wales,Bradley Horowitz, Yahoo! - and also some power personalities of the mobile internet space: René Obermann, CEO Deutsche Telekom and Tero Ojanperä, Nokia…and a lot more very influential people: creators, investors, entrepreneurs and designers. Altogether more than 1000 guests (invitation only) are expected to participate at DLD08.

DLD08 is the magic abbreviation for a conference that wants to outline the major future trends for the internet and media space called Digital, Life, Design (DLD). Marcel Reichert, together with Stephanie Czerny, Co-Founder of this venue (now for the fourth time) hosted by the German media group Burda has summarized the three super keywords for this event: green, mobile and identity.

Absolutely stunning is the fact that a German conference like DLD08 is able to set up a venue that is more than just bringing together some web people, but creating an inspiring bridge between major developments on the net and other important trends in lifestyle (media consumption, art, architecture, genetic programs) and all this within a truly global crowd - at least if you have a brief look at the DLD08 speakers list during these days. Not beer and krauts only, a global community for a few days. Not the worst approach…
